, meaning the very real personal costs of the things that romney and ryan are talking about? and i think that's part of what the president needs to be doing. i think it's what the campaign is doing here in this ad is to say, if you're going to make this cut, let's talk about the reality of what that's going to mean for people. you want to, you know, go invade iran, okay. are we all ready to see more caskets coming into dover, delaware? are we really ready to send men and women in uniform to another front in the war? you're going to make all of these cuts and how is that going to add up? it's not going to add up. here are the places where those cuts are going to have to come from. i think bringing it back to real terms, because, again, i think romney won't have the answer essentially. david is right. he has 9 top line -- >> i don't agree with you. romney's answer is very clear, ask me on the 7th of november. >> his answer is always no, it's not. >> exactly. >> because i said to. >> karen, david, and richard, thank you both. thank you all. next, paul ryan can't stand the heat and it may on

you this, when paul ryan is elected as vice president and i'm elected president -- >> now, mr. romney made those claims under a banner that says protect and strengthen medicare. did he forget that he signed on to the plan that would kill medicare as we know it? you know the one his running mate created. so this is the great mitt migration to the middle, the move from severely conservative to just severely brazen. the question is, can this new mitt move past the smell test? joining me now is congresswoman january kakowski and michelle cottle, correspondent for "the daily beast ". thank you both for joining me tonight. >> thank you. >> congresswoman, let me go to you first. newt gingrich admits governor romney has changed. how will he answer this in the next 29 days? >> well, we have to double down and demand the truth and who do you trust becomes the real question now but you can't going from saying we shouldn't hire more teachers to saying, i love teachers. we need more. you can't say you're against the dodd/frank bill and then say, oh, yes, wall street needs regulation. and you can't

think we'll hear lots about the future. >> speaking of details, mitt romney and paul ryan are pressed for their plans. specifically the 20% across the board tax cut. why are they being so vague and will governor romney get specific at this debate? >> you know, it's funny. it cuts both ways. i think the reason they're not going specific is because they don't want to be attacked. they put the romney and ryan ticket on the defense. but i've heerd governor romney say this. he says i want to work in a bipartisan way. i want to work with democrats on capitol hill. i want to do what george w. bush did with no child left behind. that's to allow the congress -- that is to allow the legislative branch to be a part of the process. and thus in the process create or draft a piece of legislation that we can all work with. so i think it's a combination of both answers, alex. >> president obama had tough reviews following the first debate. what do you think is the greatest challenge in round two? >> the white house said to make adjustments. i think it's to make the adjustments without overcorrecting
